BROAD DAYLIGHT. FRONT DOOR. THEY DIDN’T CARE.

Picture this: it’s 5:30 on a Friday afternoon. The after-work rush. Pulaski Highway is humming — people stopping for gas, grabbing a coffee, ducking into the 7-Eleven on their way home. Broad daylight. Witnesses everywhere. The last place on earth you’d expect to get robbed.

A man was walking toward the front doors of the 7-Eleven at 1700 Pulaski Highway in Bear when a woman stepped into his path and grabbed his arm.

She demanded his personal property. Just like that — hand it over. No weapon shown, no mask, no attempt to hide what she was doing. In front of the store. In front of everybody.

Before he could even process what was happening, a man climbed out of a nearby vehicle and came at him. He struck the victim — hit him — and took his property. Then both of them ran back to a white sedan and drove off like it was nothing.

Think about the nerve that takes. Not midnight in an alley. Not a deserted parking lot. Five-thirty on a Friday, at one of the busiest convenience stores on one of the busiest roads in Bear, Delaware. People coming and going. Cars in the lot. And these two just did it anyway.

That’s what makes this one stick with you. It wasn’t sophisticated. There was no planning that anyone can see, no getaway route through back streets. It was raw and brazen — grab, hit, run. The kind of crime that tells you the people who did it weren’t afraid of getting caught, because in their minds, nobody was going to stop them.

The victim suffered minor injuries in the assault. He refused medical treatment at the scene — shook up, sore, but not seriously hurt. Which, given how fast it all happened, is something.

Delaware State Police troopers responded to the 7-Eleven and the Criminal Investigations Unit has taken over the case. Here’s where things stand: the two suspects — described as an unknown Black female and an unknown Black male — are still out there. Last seen fleeing in a white sedan. No arrests. No names. No recovered property that police have announced.

If you were at that 7-Eleven on Friday afternoon — pumping gas, inside grabbing something, driving past on Pulaski Highway around 5:30 — you might have seen something without realizing it mattered. A white sedan pulling out fast. Two people moving with urgency. Anything.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Detective J. Dempsey at (302) 365-8472. You can also send a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police, or contact Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.

And a word for everybody else: pay attention in parking lots. Even at 5:30 on a Friday with people around. The two people who did this were counting on nobody paying attention — prove them wrong.
