📰 THE DAY IN THE 302
Monday in the 302 was the day before Election Day — and it felt like it. Delaware voters head to the polls Tuesday with nearly 149,000 ballots already in, state parks are throwing their gates open free on Election Day for their 75th anniversary, and Georgetown is getting ready to close The Circle all day Thursday for Return Day. 🚨 The police news ran from morning to night: a hazmat crash shut down southbound US 113 at Route 9 in Georgetown, Dover police announced an arrest in the River Road shooting, Wilmington police announced three arrests in a July robbery, State Police reported a shooting at a New Castle shopping center, and a name was put to the man killed in the Cockeysville driveway shooting — Amon Walker, 20. Over the line in Philadelphia, three people were shot at SEPTA’s 56th Street Station on Sunday evening, a jogger was killed by a SEPTA trolley near Clark Park on Monday morning, and in Franklinville, New Jersey, Christina Cruz, 30, was shot and killed in her own home and her boyfriend was arrested after a half-day search. There was good news, too: more than 40 kids rode Lewes Elementary’s first-ever Bike Bus, a $30,000 surprise gift landed for Meals on Wheels Lewes–Rehoboth, and a 15-year-old at the center of a Gold Alert — Serenity Harrington — was located safe before her name ever reached our board. One new name did reach the board: Sadie Word, 17, of Newark, missing since November 1. Fifteen names remain. Here is the full record.

🚧 GEORGETOWN — HAZMAT CRASH SHUTS DOWN SOUTHBOUND US 113 AT ROUTE 9

If your morning runs through Georgetown, this one owned it. A crash on southbound US 113 at Route 9 turned into a hazmat scene early Monday, and DelDOT shut the southbound side down. 🚧
DelDOT first reported the crash around 4:46 a.m. — the scan read put the first report at about 4:37 a.m. — and hazmat crews came out to work the scene. DelDOT told drivers to steer clear of the area. At its worst, southbound traffic was detoured at Route 9 and backed up nearly to Route 18/404.
As of 8:25 a.m., part of the intersection had reopened — but crews were still on scene, lane closures were still in place, and heavy southbound delays continued through the morning.
No word was released Monday on what vehicles were involved or whether anyone was hurt. Officials did not release those details, and we are not going to guess. When DelDOT or police put them out, we will update this story.

🏠 COCKEYSVILLE, MARYLAND — UPDATE: THE MAN KILLED IN THE DRIVEWAY SHOOTING IS IDENTIFIED AS AMON WALKER, 20

The new development leads, and the continuity is plain: we first reported this shooting yesterday. It happened Halloween night in Cockeysville, just over the Maryland line in Baltimore County. 🏠
Baltimore County Police say Amon Walker, 20, was one of three masked men who approached a resident sitting in his driveway in the 10000 block of Greenside Drive around 10:40 p.m. Saturday, October 31. One of the men was armed, and police say the group threatened the resident.
The resident fired, then called 911 himself. 📞
Walker was found dead nearby. The other two men were later located after they sought treatment for gunshot wounds at local hospitals. Police also recovered a loaded handgun they believe belonged to the men who approached the resident.
Where it stands now: police have not released the names of the two surviving men or the homeowner, and they have announced no charges against anyone. The county Homicide Unit is still investigating, and police say there is no active threat to the community.
Sources: Baltimore County Police account, as carried by the Baltimore Banner and BCo Breaking News, November 1–2, 2026, including Walker’s identification.

🚇 PHILADELPHIA — THREE PEOPLE SHOT AT SEPTA’S 56TH STREET STATION, INCLUDING A 14-YEAR-OLD

Three people were shot at SEPTA’s 56th Street Station in West Philadelphia on Sunday evening — including a 14-year-old boy — and police say at least one of them appears to have been targeted. 🚇
This happened around 6:45 p.m. Sunday at the Market-Frankford Line station in the 5600 block of Market Street.
Philadelphia Police say a 26-year-old man was shot five times and taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition. A 14-year-old boy was hit four times, in the arm and thigh, and a 25-year-old man was hit three times, in the arm and back. Both were listed in stable condition.
Police say surveillance video shows the gunman opening fire as the three were headed up toward the tracks. No arrests have been made, and police have not released any suspect information.
SEPTA ran trains through the 56th Street station without stopping for the rest of Sunday service.
It was a hard ending to a violent Halloween weekend in Philadelphia. FOX 29, citing police, tallied 11 shootings and stabbings across the weekend, with three people dead and 11 injured.

🕯️ FRANKLINVILLE, NEW JERSEY — CHRISTINA CRUZ, 30, IS SHOT AND KILLED; HER BOYFRIEND IS ARRESTED AFTER A HALF-DAY SEARCH

Christina Cruz was 30 years old. That is the part of this story that matters most, and it comes first. 🕯️
Early Monday morning, at a home on the 1200 block of Porchtown Road in Franklin Township, Gloucester County, Cruz was shot and killed. According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, Franklin Township Police responded to the home around 12:36 a.m. A witness who was upstairs heard gunshots around 12:35 a.m. and came downstairs to find Cruz in the living room. A second witness heard arguing, then two gunshots and a thud.
Police say her boyfriend fled the house. Officers treated him as armed and dangerous while they searched, and Porchtown Road was closed between Royal Avenue and Frontage Road. He was arrested shortly after noon Monday.
He is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to have a weapon. Those charges are allegations — he has not been convicted of anything, and he is presumed innocent unless a court decides otherwise.
A family got the worst news there is on Monday, and a neighborhood spent its day watching police search its streets. We will follow this case as it moves into court.

🚓 DOVER — AN 18-YEAR-OLD IS ARRESTED IN THE RIVER ROAD SHOOTING

Shots hit an occupied home in Dover last week — and on Monday, police announced an arrest. 🚓
Dover Police say an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting on River Road on October 27. Officers responded around 4:22 p.m. that day to the 500 block area of River Road, where gunfire had struck an occupied home and a parked vehicle.
The arrest was announced by the Dover Police Department on Monday, November 2; TV Delmarva/WNJD also carried it. The department’s own post did not name the suspect — so we are not naming him here either. When his name is confirmed by the department, we will update this story.
One caution, stated plainly: a detail circulating on a relay page about a child inside the home is unconfirmed. It is not in the department’s account, and it is not carried here.

🚔 WILMINGTON — A JULY ROBBERY CATCHES UP WITH THREE WOMEN

A Wilmington robbery from July just caught up with three women. 🚔
Wilmington Police say three women have been arrested in connection with a robbery that happened back on July 3, around 6:00 p.m., in the 700 block of West 7th Street.
The arrests were not made in Wilmington — they were made in Newark, one at a time: October 26, October 28, and October 30.
Each of the three is charged with Robbery in the Second Degree and Conspiracy in the Second Degree, according to the department.
Wilmington PD has not released their names. All the department has put out so far is their ages: 26, 29, and 30. If police release names or more details, we will update this story.

🎯 NEW CASTLE — A MAN IS SHOT AND TWO VEHICLES ARE STRUCK AT A SHOPPING CENTER

Delaware State Police reported a shooting in New Castle on Monday: a man was shot, and two vehicles were struck by gunfire at a shopping center. 🎯
That is what State Police and First State Update reported on Monday — DSP posted at 1:03 p.m., and First State Update carried it at 1:29 p.m. The fuller details inside the State Police release were not opened in our scan read, so we are carrying only what was verified: the incident, the man shot, and the two vehicles struck, all attributed to Delaware State Police.
When State Police release more that we can verify, we will update this story. We would rather tell you less and have it be right.

🚨 NEWARK — STATE POLICE RELEASE AN INVESTIGATION UPDATE ON THE HALLOWEEN-NIGHT MAIN STREET SHOOTING

This is an update on a story you already know — not a new shooting. 🚨
On Monday afternoon, around 2:57 p.m., Delaware State Police released an investigation update on the known Halloween-night shooting on East Main Street in Newark, where six people were shot on October 31. The release itself is the new development. Its details beyond the title were not opened in our scan read under the channel rule, so no new claims are carried here beyond the fact that the update was issued.
State Police also posted Monday at 12:16 p.m. about a fatal pedestrian crash in Newark. That post’s title is all our scan verified — no victim, road, or timing details are carried here until they are verified from the release itself.
The Newark story as last fully reported stands from Sunday: a 15-year-old in critical condition, a 20-year-old University of Delaware student in serious condition with a collapsed lung, a wounded 16-year-old charged after being found with a loaded gun — police have not said he fired it — and UD classes suspended Monday, resuming Wednesday, November 4, after the Election Day closure.

🕯️ WEST PHILADELPHIA — A WOMAN OUT JOGGING IS STRUCK AND KILLED BY A SEPTA TROLLEY NEAR CLARK PARK

This is the hard kind of news to pass along. On Monday morning, a woman who was out jogging was struck and killed by a SEPTA Route 13 trolley near Clark Park in West Philadelphia. 🕯️
That is what we know — and right now, it is all we know. She had not been named in any report we saw on Monday. No statement had come from Philadelphia Police or from SEPTA in the reports read, and we are not going to fill in the blanks with guesses — not about her, and not about how it happened.
Four separate Philadelphia outlets carried the event on Monday, which is why it is verified as an event even while the details stay thin. When her name is released and officials say more, we will update this story.
Somebody’s family got the worst call there is on Monday morning. Keep them in your thoughts, 302.

🎃 WEST CHESTER, PENNSYLVANIA — POLICE ASK: DO YOU RECOGNIZE THESE FOUR?

One of the four men wore a police officer costume. West Chester Borough Police have put their photos out and are asking: do you recognize them? 🎃
On Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, officers were called to the 600 block of South Walnut Street, near West Chester University, for an assault. Police say a group of four men assaulted at least one victim and fled before officers arrived.
The department distributed the suspects’ photos on social media, hoping somebody in the public can put names to them. Here is how police describe the four: one wore a police-officer Halloween costume; one wore a gray zip-up sweatshirt; one wore a traffic-safety vest; the fourth is pictured shirtless, in jeans.
Police have not said exactly how many people were involved in all, they have not shared the condition of the victim or victims, and they have not said what sparked the assault. No charges have been filed.
Halloween night near a college campus means a lot of people were out on those streets. Somebody saw these four. If you recognize any of them, contact the West Chester Borough Police.

🚲 LEWES — THE BEST RIDE TO SCHOOL IN DELAWARE THIS WEEK

Lewes Elementary just ran its first-ever Bike Bus — and dozens of kids showed up on two wheels. 🚲
Instead of a yellow bus, students and parents met at the Lewes Public Library trailhead and rode to school together in one big rolling pack, picking up more riders at stops along the way — just like a bus route, except everybody is pedaling. More than 40 cyclists rolled on day one, Friday, October 30.
Fifth-graders Lillian Peet and Alina Lane gave it the review that matters most: “Fun.” “Cool.”
Principal Alfredo Rodriguez called the first ride a success — and no wonder. The kids got fresh air and exercise, they practiced bike safety riding in a group, and every bike in that pack was one less car stacked up around the school.
The ride was organized by Brian Kellman of the Lewes Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, with the Cape Henlopen School District, the City of Lewes, and the Lewes Police Department behind it.
Here is hoping it becomes a regular thing. This is what a small town getting it right looks like. 💚

🍽️ LEWES–REHOBOTH — A $30,000 SURPRISE, SERVED AT DINNER

Meals on Wheels Lewes–Rehoboth was holding its Top Chef fundraiser when the night produced something better than anything on the menu: a $30,000 gift. 🍽️💚
That is not just a big check at a nice event. For Meals on Wheels, money like that turns directly into hot meals carried to the doors of homebound seniors across the Lewes–Rehoboth area — neighbors who cannot get out, fed by neighbors who show up.
Fundraisers come and go. This one ends with somebody’s grandmother eating well for a long time.
To whoever wrote that check, and to everybody who bought a ticket: the 302 sees you. This is the good stuff.

🗳️ ELECTION DAY IS TOMORROW — TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3

Delaware, it all comes down to tomorrow. 🗳️
Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you are in line by 8, you vote — that is the rule.
Your neighbors have not been sitting this one out. The count we published Monday evening — Department of Elections figures last updated November 1 at 3:21 p.m. — put 145,712 Delawareans already in: 126,654 voted early in person, and the rest by absentee. By Monday afternoon our scans re-verified a newer stamp (November 2, 10:33 a.m.): early voting 129,584, absentee 19,154, grand total 148,738. Either way you slice it, that is a serious head start for a state our size. 🇺🇸
Still holding an absentee ballot? It has to be BACK by 8 p.m. Tuesday — received in the elections office’s hands, not just in the mail, and not accepted at early voting sites or polling places. If yours is still sitting on the kitchen counter, hand-deliver it to your county elections office. Do not let it ride on a postmark.
State offices and the courts are closed for Election Day. The polls are not.
Not sure where you vote? Check your polling place tonight, not tomorrow morning — the Department of Elections voter portal, ivote.de.gov, has it in about ten seconds.
One more thing: the folks working your polling place tomorrow are your neighbors, and they will be there from before sunup to after dark. A thank-you costs nothing.
See you at the polls, 302.

🎓 DELAWARE SCHOOL CHOICE — THE APPLICATION PERIOD IS OPEN

A quieter service note from Monday, and an important one if you have kids: Delaware’s school choice application period opened Monday, November 2, and runs through January 13, 2027. 🎓
Christina School District posted the opening Monday morning, and Sussex Tech posted it Monday as well — one statewide story, carried by districts across the state. If choice is part of your family’s plan for next year, the window is open now, and it does not stay open long.

🌲 FREE DAY AT DELAWARE STATE PARKS — TOMORROW, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3

Here is your Election Day bonus, Delaware: the state parks are waiving entrance fees all day Tuesday to celebrate the park system’s 75th anniversary. 🌲
Fifteen parks are in — Cape Henlopen, Delaware Seashore, Fenwick Island, Trap Pond, Lums Pond, and more. No gate fee. Just show up.
And the timing is perfect: schools are closed for Election Day, so the kids are home anyway. Vote in the morning, then take them to the beach or the trails — that is a Tuesday done right.
One note: Fort Delaware is not part of the free day, so plan around the participating parks.
Seventy-five years of these parks being ours. Tomorrow, they are free. Go enjoy one. 💚

🎡 GEORGETOWN — RETURN DAY IS THURSDAY, AND THE CIRCLE SHUTS DOWN AT 6 A.M.

Sussex County, mark it down: Return Day is this Thursday, November 5, in Georgetown — and The Circle, the center of town, closes at 6:00 a.m. and does not reopen until 6:00 p.m. 🎡
The Return Day Parade steps off at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. It is Delaware’s one-of-a-kind tradition, held every other year after the election: the winners and the losers ride through town together and bury the hatchet to close out the campaign season. If you have never seen it, it is worth the trip.
It actually starts a day early. The Ox Roast is Wednesday, November 4, and The Circle closes at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday to get ready for it.
One warning, and it is a real one: there is no parking on the parade route starting at 6:00 a.m. Thursday, and Georgetown Police say violators will be towed. Do not let a good day end with your truck on a hook.
So plan your Thursday now. If your errands run through Georgetown, knock them out Wednesday or route around The Circle. And if you are headed to the parade, get there early, find your spot, and enjoy one of the best traditions in the 302.

🕯️ STILL MISSING 302 — THE BRING-THEM-HOME BOARD

One name was added to this board today, and one Gold Alert ended the way we want every one to end — before the name ever reached the board. 💚
NEW — SADIE WORD, 17, NEWARK, DE. Sadie appears as the newest entry on the Delaware State Police Missing Children page: missing since Sunday, November 1, from Newark, reporting agency New Castle County PD. Blonde hair, brown eyes, 5’0”, 90 lbs, per the official DSP entry. She spent her first day missing on November 1 — today, November 2, is Day 2. No DSP or NCCPD Facebook alert post for Sadie was found in Monday evening’s checks; her listing is the official DSP page itself. Tips: New Castle County PD, (302) 573-2800.
FOUND SAFE BEFORE THE BOARD — SERENITY HARRINGTON, 15, NEW CASTLE, DE. New Castle County Police issued a Gold Alert for Serenity on Monday at 1:24 p.m. — last seen leaving home around 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 30, in the Chesterfield area of New Castle — and by Monday evening NCCPD had canceled the alert: Serenity has been located and is safe. She never reached this board or a case post, and that is exactly how we like a Gold Alert to end. 💚
Fifteen names remain on the board tonight. Every name carries a face where a photo has been released — faces stop the scroll and get recognized. Two of the fifteen — Kyle Torrance and Jachaela Carroll — have no released photo: they carry a NO PHOTO RELEASED marker. No invented faces, ever. Day counts below count the vanished day as Day 1.
