THREE SHOT INSIDE A LIQUOR STORE. ON A SUNDAY NIGHT.

Two women and a man wounded at Pepper's Liquors on Reisterstown Road — two hours before the Edmondson Ave massacre.

It’s 8:30 on a Sunday evening in northwest Baltimore. The kind of Sunday night where the weekend’s winding down — people picking up what they need for the week ahead, grabbing something on the way home, just trying to get through the evening.

Pepper’s Liquors sits on Reisterstown Road in the 5400 block. It’s a neighborhood spot. The kind of place where the regulars know the staff and the staff knows the regulars. Neon in the window, shelves stocked, the hum of the coolers in the back.

Then somebody started shooting. Inside the store.

Think about that for a second. Not in the parking lot. Not down the block. Inside. Where there’s nowhere to go — you’re between the shelves and the counter and the door, and somebody’s firing a gun.

When Baltimore police rolled up, the scene was already chaos. Two women on the ground — one 26, one 22 — both hit by gunfire. Blood on the floor of a liquor store on a Sunday night. Paramedics worked on them right there between the aisles before rushing them to the hospital.

Both are expected to survive. But "expected to survive" doesn’t mean they’re okay. It means the doctors think they’ll live. There’s a big difference.

And while officers were still working that scene — still stringing up the tape, still talking to witnesses, still trying to figure out what the hell just happened inside that store — they got word that a third victim had shown up at a hospital on his own. A 27-year-old man. Gunshot wounds. Also expected to make it.

Three people. One liquor store. One Sunday night.

FOX Baltimore had crews on the scene fast — you could see it live. Heavy police presence. The whole block lit up red and blue. Reisterstown Road shut down while detectives walked the scene.

Nobody’s saying what started it. Was it a robbery? An argument that went sideways? Somebody who walked in already looking for somebody? Right now, nobody knows. Nobody’s in custody. No suspects named.

And here’s the part that should make everybody’s stomach drop — this wasn’t even the worst thing that happened in Baltimore that night. About two hours later, two miles across town, somebody opened fire with high-powered rifles at a BP gas station on Edmondson Avenue. Five people shot. Two of them dead.

Same city. Same night. Two separate crime scenes. Eight total victims. Three hours apart.

Baltimore had a night. And the people who live there woke up Monday morning to this.
